Lady Titans 2014 Soccer Preview

Samantha Travillian took a corner kick during a recent Mercer County Lady Titan’s soccer team practice.

With the loss of seven seniors off of a 2013 team that went 10-8-3, finished as 46th District runners-up and were semi-finalists in the 12th  Region Tournament, most coaches would expect a rebuilding year. However,  Mercer County Lady Titan’s  Soccer Head Coach Tony Brown doesn’t see it that way. Brown expects the 2014 team to pick up right where last year’s team left off and make even bigger strides towards their quest of becoming 12th Region champions.

Below are questions and answers with Brown about the upcoming season:

Q: Who are the key returning players to the 2014 team?

A: “I’m expecting big things out of Maddie (Bartley), Lulu (Lauren Goodlett), Olivia (Mobley), Samantha (Travillian), Kelsee (Darland) and Lauren (Beams). I expect this group of girls to be leaders on and off of the field. I want them to set a standard for this program and for the other girls.“

Q: Who are the key players you lost off of last year’s team?

A: “We graduated seven seniors in Raegan Freeman, Amanda Howard, Gentry Brown, Cheyanne Brown, Michelle Roby, Brittany Pridey and Autumn Brown. That group had been together since they were 7-years-old. Each of those girls could read each others mind, and knew where the other was going to be.”
