Haley Anderson served the ball during a recent practice for the Mercer County Titans. The Titans open their season on Aug. 19 at home, versus East Jessamine.
A 16-14 record and a first round district loss was not what Head Coach David Sullivan and the Mercer County volleyball team wanted in 2013, which is why they are coming out determined for a better season in 2014. Below are questions and answers with Sullivan about the upcoming season.
Q: Who are the key returning players this season?
A: “We are expecting big things out of our seniors, Darby Whalen, Lauren Barnes, Maddie Fyffe and Rose Herchenroeder. Every girl has worked extremely hard this offseason in preparation for this season.”
Q: Who are the newcomers on the team to watch for?
A: “Although they aren’t newcomers to the team, I am expecting Kennedy Bryant, Morgan Clark and Haley Anderson to add a lot of new contributions to the team.”
Q: Who are the key players lost off of last years team?
A: “Isabelle Sullivan had been with us eight years, and had been our setter since her eighth-grade year, so it really hurts losing her. Losing your setter is like losing the quarterback on a football team. Luckily, Lauren Barnes has stepped up for us this year and taken over as our setter.”
