Lady Titans Softball Advances to 12th Region

Kaylee Russell takes her turn at the plate during Tuesday night’s game against East Jessamine. Russell was named to the 46th District All Tournament Team.

The Mercer County Lady Titans were the only team in the county to make it past the first round in district play Monday, defeating West Jessamine, but their hopes of a district title fell short against East Jessamine Tuesday night.

Lead off hitter, Kaylee Russell was struck out by East Jessamine’s pitcher, Haylee Hamm, ranked as one of the state’s top pitchers. Lyric Huston laid down a bunt for a base hit and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but was left on the bag when Hamm struck out Gabby Banks and Kennedy Bryant’s fly ball was caught for the third out.

The Lady Titan’s defense held strong with three up and three down. Russell connected to Morgan Reed at first for the first out before catcher Lauran Hahn snagged a pop up for the second and Russell struck out Lady Jaguar Sarah Rainwater for the third out.

To start the second inning, East’s Hamm showed just what she was made of- striking out all three Lady Titan batters.
