No Rest for the Winning

Layne Peavler makes the throw from the shortstop position in the second game of the Titan’s double header Saturday against Scott County.

The 2013 season was a historic year for the Mercer County baseball team. The Titans made their third straight Sate Tournament and competed for a state championship for the second time in three years. The senior class ended their career’s with a school record 105 regular and post season wins.

While all that success would earn many programs a pat on the back and a well deserved rest over the summer, for Mercer, it only marked the start of the 2014 season.

That star began on June 10, just two days after the state championship game was played, with the Titan’s opening summer league game. While the team is made up of the same players as the 2013 roster, minus graduated seniors, they are led by assistant coach and former Titan Zeck Edwards.
