Titans Three-peat as 12th Region Champs

Russell Sims makes the throw in from left field in the 12th Region Championship game last Wednesday.
The only thing more impressive than the Titan’s baseball team three-peating as 12th Region champions is they way they did it. Mercer didn’t just beat the Warriors of Southwestern Pulaski last Wednesday in the finals, they dominated them en route to a five inning, 13-3 win and their third consecutive state tournament.
“Mercer County is special to me,” said Mercer Head Coach Jeremy Shope. “It’s been a long growing process, and to be able to do this thing three times is unbelievable.”
Russell Sims drove in the game’s opening run in the bottom of the first inning, scoring John Ingram from second base on a single to center field. Mercer held a 2-0 lead after one when Sims stole home later in the inning.
