Titans Advance Over Apollo at State

Mercer’s right fielder, Chris Crawley-Goodman, leaps onto home plate as his teammates wait to storm him after his fourth inning homerun in the Titan’s 4-0 win over Apollo in the first round of the State Tournament.
Just like last year, Mercer found themselves in Whitaker Bank Ball Park playing in the opening round of the state baseball tournament Monday with pitcher J.T. Long on the mound, and just like last year, the game ended with a 4-0 shutout.
Unlike last year, it was Long and the Titans who got the win Monday over the Eagles of Apollo (29-9) in seven innings.
“It feels awesome to get a win in this ball park,” said Long who also pitched in the 2011 state championship game in which Mercer lost 21-2 to Central Hardin. “I really love it for my seniors, just knowing that they get to come out and play another game here. Like I said it’s just an awesome feeling being out here, having everybody watching, it’s a great feeling.”
