Titans Outlast LCA, 9-8

Mercer first baseman Trevor Tate, right, puts on the tag at first base in the Titan’s 9-8 win over Lexington Christian Academy Tuesday.

From beginning to end, Tuesday’s baseball game between Mercer County (21-8) and Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) was back and forth, but in the end it was Mercer that came out on top.

The Titans struck first in the bottom of the first inning when leadoff man John Ingram reached first on a single to left field. Ingram eventually stole home on a wild pitch giving Mercer the 1-0 lead after one.

In the bottom of the second with two outs, Chris Goodman increase Mercer’s lead to three with a two run homer over the center field wall that scored Trevor Tate from second base.
