Titans Like Being Target in 12th Region

After reaching the state tournament championship game in 2011, the Titans 2012 season was “supposed” to be a rebuilding year. Instead, Head Coach Jeremy Shope and the Mercer County baseball team repeated as the 12th Region champions, cashing their ticket to the state tournament for the second straight year. That recent success means the pressure of having a target on this year’s teams back to be as large as it’s ever been heading into the 2013 season.

“There is nothing like that feeling of having that target on your back that every team in the 12th Region is going to be aiming for,” said Shope. “It means you’re well- respected, even if teams are gunning for you and we take a lot of pride in that.”

While Shope and the Titans are enjoying the prestige the last two seasons have brought them, they are well aware it’s not going to be easy getting back to Whitaker Bank Ball Park for a third straight year, or even out of their district and into the 12th Region Tournament for that matter.
