Lady Titans Softball Seek to Continue Program’s Success

Lady Titan Senior Players

2012 was a good year for Mercer County softball. They won their first ever 46th District championship and advanced all the way to the 12th Region championship game and finished the season with a 30-8 record. It was also a season that saw six starters leave to graduation, as well as the end of an era for Head Coach Stephen Lyons who retired from the position at the end of the season.

Turning the page to the 2013 season, first time Head Coach Michael Shewmaker returns just three starters and four seniors. It would be easy to call this a rebuilding season, but Shewmaker isn’t.

“The four seniors are going to be key for us just because we are so young,” said Shewmaker. “Outside of those four, no one on our roster has ever started a varsity game for us before. We will need some of our younger players to step up for us, but I’m confident they can and will. We have some young players that are skilled and talented, they just need some game experience to get used to playing at the varsity level speed.”
