As the saying goes, “It’s not how you start, but how you finish,” the same was true for the Lady Titans in their 73-42 win over West Jessamine Tuesday night in the first round of the 46th District Tournament.
While the outcome of the game never seemed to be in doubt, Mercer’s start to it was somewhat lackluster.
“I wasn’t happy at all with the first half,” said Mercer Head Coach Chris Souder. “You would think after 14 years I would know better, but we have young kids and a transfer who aren’t used to this type of atmosphere.”
Mercer led by just six points after the opening quarter against a Lady Colt’s team they defeated by an average of 34 points in their two regular season meetings.
The Lady Titans picked up their intensity in the second quarter, holding West Jessamine to just four points. Mercer forced the Lady Colts into 18 first half turnovers while allowing just 17 shot attempts helping them take a 37-16 lead into halftime.
