In a game that saw 10 combined three pointers in the first half and 15 total, it was the Lady Bulldogs who came up short on senior night falling to the Lady Colonels of Bourbon County (9-20), 75-53.
After taking a 3-2 lead on a Taylor Sanders three pointer early in the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs where shut down offensively by Bourbon County. Burgin scored just seven points in the period, six of which came off Sanders’ three pointers, and trailed 17-7 heading into the second quarter.
Sanders finished the first half scoring 16 of the Lady Bulldog’s 19 points, including four three pointers, all four coming off assists by fellow senior Randi Burke. Bourbon County neutralized Sanders good shooting with six first half three pointers of their own and held a 36-19 lead going into halftime.
The three point shooting cooled off in the second half with only a combined five being hit between the two teams, and once again it was the Lady Colonels who held the advantage 3-2.
Burgin did manage to fight their way back into the game, but from the free throw line, not the three point line. The Lady Bulldogs got to the foul line a total of 16 times in the third quarter hitting only half of them. Despite their low percentage from the charity stripe, Burgin managed to cut Bourbon County’s lead to single digits, 48-40, for the first time in the second half with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Lady Colonels answered by scoring four points in the last five seconds of the period, taking a 52-40 lead into halftime.
