If there was any doubt who the top girls team in the 46th District was going into Saturday’s game between the Mercer County Lady Titans and Burgin Lady Bulldogs, it took just one quarter for the answer to become clear.

Mercer held the Lady Bulldogs to one field goal in the opening quarter that ended with the Lady Titans leading 19-4.

“We wanted to jump on them early and set the tone,” said Mercer Assistant Coach Spencer Tatum. “The players did a good job of that early in the game, but may have relaxed some in the second quarter.”

The Lady Bulldogs did manage 10 points in the second period, but were unable to slow Mercer down who held a 19 point lead at halftime, 33-14.

“Mercer is a really good team and you cant take anything away from them, but I feel like we can compete with them if we can stay focused for all four quarters,” said Burgin Head Coach.
