Emily Demarest

Emily Walter Demarest, 87, widow of Cornelius “Corny” Agnew Demarest, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at her residence.   

Born in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late David and Phoebe Litsey Walter. She was a kindergarten teacher who also worked with the Kidney Foundation. She was named an honorary Kentucky Colonel for her volunteer service at Central Kentucky Radio Eye and for recording text books for blind students.  A more than 50-year member of Hunter Presbyterian Church, she was active with the Women’s Circle and the choir.

She is survived by her children; Terry (James) Williams, Kettering, OH; David (Carla) Demarest, Michele (Barry Stumbo) Ripley, both of Lexington; sister, Patsy Hardin, Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Christie Williams, Kevin (Leah) Williams, Emily Demarest and Adrienne Demarest; as well as her caregivers, Robin, Nikki and Betty Jo.
