Bulldogs Split Weekend Games

St. Francis

The Bulldogs snapped their four game losing streak Saturday night, outlasting the Dragons of St. Francis (4-7) on the road, 49-47.

Burgin opened the game hot from behind the arch as Dylan Coulter and John Price combined for three first quarter three pointers, taking a 21-12 lead into the second quarter.

St. Francis struggled to slow down the Bulldog’s offense and it began affecting their own offense in the second quarter, scoring just seven points in the period as Burgin stretched their lead to 15 points going into halftime, 34-19.

Control of the game took a complete 180 in the second half in favor of the Dragons who held the Bulldogs to single digit scoring in both the second and third quarters. The Bulldog’s low scoring allowed St. Francis to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, 47-46.

With time expiring, Burgin point guard Mason Myers hit the teams first three pointer since the opening quarter and the game winner as the Bulldogs improved to 5-7.

St. Francis (4-7) – Len Adams 21, Cole Von Feldt 8, Jack Hanekamp 6, Kenneth Gray 4, Setho Moshoeshoe 4, David Borders 2, Tyler Fister 2.

The Bulldogs return to action today, Thursday, Jan 10 when they host the Colts of West Jessamine (10-4) with tip off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Casey County

Slow starts to both halfs by the Bulldogs Friday night prevented any attempts of getting revenge over the Rebels of Casey County (7-7) in the team’s rematch. 

Burgin scored just five points in the first and third quarters allowing Casey County to take control of the game early. The Bulldogs remained within a possession of the Rebels at halftime, trailing 20-17. 

Neither team scored double figures in the third quarter keeping it a two possession game, 28-22. Burgin sent the Rebels to the free throw line 13 times in the final quarter and converted on eight, helping them get the win, 43-34.
