Guilford Waggener

Guilford C. Waggener, 87, of Burgin, widower of Nancy Mayo Waggener, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born April 5, 1925 in Burgin, he was the son of the late William Howard and Mary Ruth Green Waggoner.   He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and member of the Burgin Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and clerk. He was a graduate of the University of Louisville where he played basketball for four years, was a member of Gideons International, was a past president of the Burgin Lions Club, a past president of the Mercer County Farm Bureau, served on the Burgin School Board for 28 years and served on the Mercer County Library and Fire Boards for several years.

Survivors include  three daughters, Mary Anna (Paul) Welch of Burgin, Jeanette (Steve) Peyton of Harrodsburg and Ruth Elizabeth (Jeff) Loane of Burgin; one son, William Howard (Lisa) Waggener II of Burgin; one sister, Frances (Othniel) Alsop of Louisiana  and one brother, Bill (Peggy) Waggener of Burgin; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
