The Burgin (2-3) boys basketball team dropped their second straight game for the first time this season in their district opener Thursday night against East Jessamine (5-2), 66-56.
The Bulldogs trailed by six after the opening quarter, 17-11, and continued to struggle slowing down the Jaguars’ offense, who scored 36 in the opening half.
Burgin was able to keep within a few possessions of East Jessamine the entire game, but were never able to threaten their lead as the Jaguars got the win, 66-56.
Alex Beckerson led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points. Mason Myers and Nick Beckerson also reached double digit scoring totals with 16 and 11 points respectively.
The schedule gets a little crammed over the next six days for Burgin. They host KSD (3-6) today, Thursday Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m., then host Bath County (3-2) Saturday, Dec. 15 at 6:00 p.m. The team will get a two day break before traveling across county to take on Mercer at 6:00 p.m. The Bulldogs went 1-1 against the Titans last year, winning on the road, 83-71, and falling at home, 60-55.
