Burgin Girls Basketball Split Weekend Games

A slow start doomed the Bulldogs Thursday night in the road opener against the Rebles of Casey County High School. 

Burgin hit just one field goal and a pair of free throws in the opening eight minutes of play, falling behind the Rebels, 15-4. The Bulldogs offense picked up in the second quarter, but were still unable to make a dent in their defense, trailing at halftime, 32-15. 

Burgin did out score Casey County in the third period, 14-12, but it wasn’t enough as the Rebels cruised to the win in the fourth quarter, 58-41.

Burgin (1-1) — Mason Myers 15, Alex Beckerson 12, John Price 8, Dylan Coulter 2, Cooper Shearer 2.

Casey County (1-0) — Baylen Hill 13, Matt Bancon 11, Taylor Leigh 10, Micah Smith 8, Zack Scott 7, Skylar Wright 5, Jerricho Propes 2, Cody Steele 2.

Riverside Christian

The Burgin boys basketball team got back on the right side of .500 Saturday in a blowout win over Riverside Christian Rams at Mercer County High School in the Farmer’s National Bank 12th Region Showcase, 69-39.

The Bulldogs wasted no time pouncing on the undermanned Ram’s squad, out scoring them 7 to 1 in the opening quarter and taking a 35-5 lead. 

Burgin’s defense held Riverside Christian to single digit scoring in two quarters, the first and third. The Bulldogs themselves were also held to single digit scoring in two quarters, the second and fourth. 

With such a large early lead, Burgin Head Coach Brian Kirk was able to go deep into his bench with 11 Bulldogs scoring as they got the 30 points win, 69-39.
