Burgin Girls Basketball Split Weekend Games

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 12th Region rival Danville High School Admirals Friday night in an one sided affair, 74-38.
Burgin’s Summer Burke scored the team’s only basket in the opening quarter as the Lady Admirals jumped out to a 20-2 lead after eight minutes of play.
Both Burgin’s offense and defense picked up their play in the second quarter and out scored Danville 13-10, trailing by 15 at halftime, 30-15.
One area the Lady Bulldogs did out play Danville was at the free throw line, making 17 of 24 compared to the Lady Admirals 15 of 25. Despite their success at the line, Burgin struggled with finding scoring options outside of Burke and Liz Marcinek who combined for 29 of their points.
Danville’s offense scored a game high 26 points in the fourth quarter getting the win, 74-38.

Pineville
The Burgin girls basketball team got reprisal in their Saturday game against Pineville with a 56-46 win, getting back above the .500 mark for the season.
Pineville struggled early against the Lady Bulldog’s defense, scoring just two points in the opening quarter as Burgin took the 12-2 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to extend their lead thanks to good free throw shooting. Burgin hit 15 of their 22 attempts from the charity strip in the first half and took a 26-12 lead into halftime. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game 29 of 46 from the foul line and the Lady Lions were unable to match Burgin’s mark going just 1 of 7 in the first half and 15 of 29 for the game.
Pineville was able to cut into Burgin’s lead in the third quarter out-scoring the Lady Bulldogs 19 to 11, making it a six point game, 37-31. But the free throw line would make the difference, with nine of Burgin’s 19 fourth quarter points coming from the stripe, as they held on for the win, 56-46.
