The Lady Bulldogs were unable to win their third straight 46th District Championship Thursday night falling to the Lady Colts of West Jessamine, 3-1.
Burgin fell behind early in the opening game and were never able to fight back losing 25-11. They improved in their second game, but were still unable to overcome the hard hitting Lady Colts losing 25-21 and falling in a two game hole.
Their hard work finally paid off in the third game. After trailing 23-19, Burgin won four points straight tying the game at 23-all. Burgin was able to fight off match point two points later on a kill by Emilee Hurt, and ended up winning the set four points later, 27-25.
“I think the third game really showed what this group of girls is capable of,” said Burgin Head Coach Maggie McKnight. “They didn’t give up or back down and didn’t lose their hearts and heads. They were able to keep their heads in the game, stay focused and I’m really proud they were able to pull that off.”
