The Lady Titans volleyball team picked up their fifth region win of the season Monday night defeating rival Boyle County in straight games, 3-0.
Mercer played a sound game all around earning 17 aces compared to six errors on serves, earning a combined 13 kills. But, it was the Lady Titans’ defense head coach David Sullivan was most pleased with.
“It was our first game playing a full time libero, Bailey Harder, and she really helped us out,” said Sullivan. “It gave our player a little bit of confidence who normally struggles defensively. Harder is a very good defensive player and because our passes were good, it allowed our hitters to set up.”
“That resulted in us getting kills across the front line, not just from Darby (Bourdon) who usually carries us in hitting.”
Playing the libero position, Harder’s role was to receive the serve or attack and make the pass to the setter. The libero coordinates the defensive movements much like the setter does for the offense.
Bourdon accounted for a combined nine kills and blocks for the Lady Titans including a game winning kill in game one and a game winning block in game two.
