Ben Alice Taylor Purdom, 88, of Harrodsburg, widow of Edgar Norvell Purdom, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland.
Born June 2, 1924, in Trinity, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Earl Taylor and Elizabeth Olive Bayne Taylor. She was president of the Harrodsburg Woman’s Club and the Parent Teacher Association of the Harrodsburg Schools; was a member of the Jane McAfee chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Harrodsburg Historical Society, the James Harrod Trust, the Friends of Shakertown, the Mercer County Public Library board, the Harrodsburg chapter of the American Cancer Society and the Harrodsburg chapter of the March of Dimes. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 50 years, taught Sunday School for many years and served on the administrative board. She worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Survivors include two sons, Edgar Norvell (Ann) Purdom Jr. of Louisa and William Benjamin Purdom of Apopka, Fla.; a daughter, Peggy Purdom (Charles) Patterson of Bloomfield; a brother, Alford Inman (Ivy) Taylor of La Grange; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
