Every team want’s to open the season with a win. The Lady Titans volleyball team was not only able to get a win, but got a meaningful win over new district opponent East Jessamine in dominating fashion, 3-0.

“This win is really huge for us,” said Head Coach David Sullivan. “Last year, East and West (Jessamine) just beat us and beat us and beat us so to get this win against one of them is huge and them now being in our district just makes it even bigger.”

After exchanging serve on the first six points, Mercer’s Ashton Davis was able to provide stability in the service game helping give Mercer a 6-3 lead. The score remained close through the opening game,  13-10, before the Lady Titans caught fire winning 12 of the last 15 points, taking the first game 25-13.

“We got some really good defensive play, not only in the first game, but all night long,” said Sullivan. “Baily Harder did a great job on the back line on defense. Darby (Whalen), Maddi (Fyffe) and Lauren (Barnes) did a great job on the front line. The twins (Allison and Ashton Davis) did a great job filling in and Isabelle (Sullivan) looked like the general of the team getting the offense going like a good setter should.”
