9&10 Year Old All-Stars Stumble After Win

The Mercer County 9 and 10-year-old all-star team opened District 3 pool play Saturday night by thrashing Harrison County, 24-1 in five innings.

A two run homer by Keegan Bottom in the top of the first inning gave Mercer the early lead. Tyler Stephens reached base on a throwing error and made Harrison County pay, stealing second, third and home before they could close the inning giving Mercer a 3-0 lead.


Mercer added four runs in the second inning and another in the third inning all while holding Harrison County scoreless keeping an 8-0 lead. Kaelin Drakeford gave up Mercer’s only run, unearned in the fourth inning as Harrison County pulled to within seven runs, 8-1.

Mercer’s offense exploded in the fifth inning scoring 16 runs on 11 hits and six errors before shutting out Harrison County in the bottom of the inning, getting the win, 24-1.
