7th Annual Dennis Johnson Football Clinic

More than 130 kids packed into the Nutter Field House, the practice site for the University of Kentucky football team, Monday and Tuesday taking part in the 7th Annual Dennis Johnson Football Clinic. Johnson is currently the head football coach at Jessie Clark Middle School in Lexington.
“It never gets old coming back here to my old stomping grounds,” Johnson said about putting on his camp for the seventh straight year. “The staff here are always helpful and the facilities are amazing. It’s really a great opportunity to give these kids a chance to see this stuff up close and get to workout and play on the same field as some of their favorite players.”
In addition to being instructed by brothers Dennis and Derrick Johnson, former UK and NFL defensive linemen, players were taught basic fundamentals and position skills by former Wildcats, Craig Yeast,  Artose Pinner and Anthony White, who all spent time in the NFL.
“We really try and focus on the fundamentals here, not just giving the kids busy work, but really teaching them the basics of the game to give them a nice solid foundation to build the rest of their game on,” said Johnson. “Many of these kids will never get a chance to meet or learn from guys who have played in the NFL, so getting to see, interact and learn from them will hopefully give them the mind set that they can go out there and achieve their dreams if they are willing to work for them.”
