Burgin Baseball Gaining Momentum and Wins
Madison Southern
The Bulldogs got their second straight win Tuesday night defeating Madison Southern 5-4 thanks to a three run sixth inning. Madison Southern took an early 3-0 lead after the opening inning. The Bulldogs added a run in the third and fifth inning and trailed by just two runs going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Burgin managed to put up three runs of their own giving them at 5-4 lead. Starting pitcher Austin Shewmaker was able to close out Madison Southern, giving his team the come from behind win, 5-4.
The Bulldogs close out their regular season at home Thursday, May 17, hosting the the Spartans of Sayre (15-13) with the opening pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Frankfort
The Bulldogs picked up their third win in four games and fourth win of the season Monday night against the Panthers of Frankfort (13-5), 4-2. Burgin opened the scoring column in the first inning when Hunter Harrison drove in Austin Shewmaker on a ground ball out, making it a 1-0 game. Mason Myers added another run in the third inning driving in Jared Robbins on a RBI single.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the fourth taking a 4-0 lead before the Panthers started to rally. Frankfort scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the innings, trailing 4-2 going into the top of the sixth. Robbins recovered at the mound for Burgin, shutting out the Panthers in the last two inning, giving Burgin the win, 4-2.
Casey County
After defeating Bardstown (11-22), 7-5 in the second game of a double header, Burgin picked up their second straight win Thursday night defeating the Rebels of Casey County (7-23), 5-1.
Casey County opened the game with a run in the first inning on a past pitch against Burgin starting pitcher Jared Robbins, taking a 1-0 lead.
Robbins made up for the early run by hitting an in the park grand slam in the bottom of the third inning making it a 4-1 game. Robbins made it a 5-1 game in the bottom of the sixth inning with his fifth RBI of the game giving Mercer the win, 5-1.
