The Titans football program is now in search of it’s third head coach in as many season after Paul Rains informed the school Friday he had verbally accepted the head coaching position at Letcher County Central (LCC).
Rains, who was hired in Dec. of 2010, lasted just one season with the Titans. In his time at Mercer, Rains went 5-7, including a 19-14 win over Russell County in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs. It was the first post season win for the Titans since the 2008 season.
“It all happened in such a whirlwind,” said Rains on his sudden departure from Mercer County. “In a four day time span I went from being approached with job, to them (LCC) needing a decision. It was a tough, tough, tough decision, especially on such short notice, but one I felt in my gut I had to make.”
