Souder and Taylor Awarded by 12th Region

Lady Titans Savannah Taylor was named the player of year by the 12th Region Girls Basketball Coaches Association early this week.

Mercer head coach Chris Souder was named the region’s coach of the year by the association, leading the Lady Titans to a 27-6 record, good enough for best in the region and in program history. 

“Receiving coach of the year is a great honor especially since it is selected by other coaches in our region,” said Souder. “I have been blessed with great assistant coaches and most of all great girls on and off the court that make this award even a possibility.  We had a fantastic season and even though we came up a little short of our goals I am very proud to be the coach of these fantastic young ladies!”

The coaches’ association also announced its all-region team, which includes one Lady Titan and one Lady Bulldog.

Mercer’s Catheryn Claunch and Burgin’s Shavon Majors were each named to the third team all-region squad.
