Lady Bulldogs Make Burgin Sports History

Summer Burke gets to the basket as the West Jessamine defender comes over the top in Burgin’s 53-39 win Monday in the 46th District Semi-finals.
The Lady Bulldogs made school history Monday night making it to their second straight 46th District finals for the first time in school history, defeating the Lady Colts of West Jessamine, 53-39.
Burgin’s Taylor Sanders opened the game with a basket following an offensive rebound to give her team a 2-0 lead. That was the only time the Lady Bulldogs led in the first quarter and the only field goal they hit in the period as West Jessamine out scored Burgin three to one taking a 12-6 lead into the second quarter.
“I told my team they had to go to the basket,” said Burgin head coach Chris Myers. “We knew they would foul us going to the rim and we really wanted to be in the bonus in the first and third quarter.”
Burgin did reach the bonus with 1:06 remaining in the first quarter, but shot just 40 percent from the free throw line, four of 10, and 15 of 30 on the game, for 50 percent.
