Many of the Mercer County boy’s basketball players couldn’t put into words how they felt following the final buzzer Tuesday night, as they defeated the Casey County Rebels 76-60 to win the 12th Region Championship.

“I am so excited,” said sophomore Trevon Faulkner, who finished with 28 points. “I don’t even know how to put it into words.”

“I honestly can’t even describe it,” said junior Dylan James, who finished with 22 points.

“This is something I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little kid,” said senior Will Hager, who finished with 20 points.

Mercer County Head Coach Josh Cook had a way of putting it all in prospective.

“These kids are all so deserving of this. All year they have bought in and been so unselfish,” said Cook, who was named the 12th Region Coach of the Year following the game. “I am just trying to soak this all in. I am so proud of them.”

The Titans jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter, but Casey County refused to go away in the second. The Rebels tied it up, 18-18, midway through the second quarter.

Mercer took a 23-21 lead moments later, before James nailed three straight three-pointers to put the Titans ahead 32-21. The Titans held a 35-23 halftime lead.
