There has been a lot of discussion about where the Mercer County football team will play their games this fall. All of the questions have now been answered and there has been a decision on where the Titans will call home.

According to Mercer County Athletic Director Donald Wayne Smith, Mercer County will play at the Mercer County football field located by the sports complex.

There had been much speculation that the Titans would play at Alvis Johnson Field, especially with the new track installed, which is now open to the public, and the recent work done to the field. However, things didn’t quite work out like planned.

“We didn’t originally realize how bad of shape the bleachers were in,” said Smith. “We could have done a quick fix, but instead we wanted to do it the right way.”

Although the Titans won’t suit up at Alvis Johnson Field for the first few games of the season, Smith hopes there will eventually be games played there.

“We have goals of trying to get there (Alvis Johnson Field) by the middle or end of the season, if things fall into place,” said Smith. “We should know in the next couple of weeks.”
