Burgin Volleyball

The Burgin Lady Bulldogs went 7-23-1 a year ago, but they return all but one player from that team. That is why first year head coach Clay Hall thinks they have a shot at winning the 46th District. At least, those are his expectations for his team.
Elizabeth Adams, Sarah Auvil, Riley Brown and Taylor Shepherd are the team’s four returning seniors and each of them will have to have a big contribution if the Lady Bulldogs want to win their first district title since 2011.
“We have really good senior leadership,” said Hall. “I think Elizabeth, Riley, Sarah and Taylor will step up big for us this season.”
Auvil will bring the most experience to the team, as she has been a part of the team since her freshman year. She said she will embrace the role of being a leader.

Mercer Volleyball

Most teams would plan on rebuilding after losing six seniors to graduation. But the Mercer County Lady Titans and first year head coach Marci Wilham have higher expectations. With the return of juniors Tori Long and Kennedy Bryant, the Lady Titans hope to head back to the 46th District title game, as well as the 12th Region Tournament.
Long returns after being one of the top players in the 12th Region a season ago. Bryant was one of the team’s key contributors night in and night out. Wilham said their experience will be a key ingredient to having a successful season.
“Tori and Kennedy have improved a lot from last season. I think they are both more confident than they were a year ago,” said Wilham. “They were both great players, but I think we will see even better things this season.”
