Mercer County Girls Golf Preview

The Mercer County Lady Titans golf team placed sixth in the seventh region tournament last season. After graduating only one player from that team, head coach Jeremy Brummett expects them to have an even better finish this season.

Freshman Bekah Upchurch will be expected to lead the Lady Titans, just as she did last season.

“She is still young, so I don’t want to put too much pressure on her, but I do expect her to be in the top-10 in some of these tournaments,” said Brummett.

Upchurch has put in a lot of work in the offseason to help her accomplish her goal of becoming one of the top players in the region.

Mercer County boys head golf coach Jay Anderson likes his team. In fact, he thinks they have the potential to be one of the best teams he has had since the merger of Harrodsburg High School and Mercer County High School in 2006.

He returns all but one golfer from last year’s team, including three key seniors, who he says will be tasked with helping the Titans win the fourth region tournament.

“As far as experience goes, this is probably the best team that we’ve had since we had great players like Andrew Yeast, Nick Patterson, Nick Souder and Ward Dedman. So we’ve got a lot of experience  back,”said Anderson. “I am going to depend on our senior leadership to keep us focused and to keep our eye on the prize, which is that elusive state tournament berth.”

The key to getting that state tournament berth will rely heavily on the shoulders of Connor True and Brennen Walton. True, a senior, and Walton, a junior, have put in a lot of work in the offseason to help guide the Titans to the promised land.
