Mercer County Comes Up Short Against Rebels

It felt more like a regional tournament game than just a regular season match Tuesday night as the Boyle County Rebels visited Mercer County.
“Our fans came out and our program really appreciates that. The pep section was great and that really helped our kids tonight and inspired them to go out and play hard,” said Mercer County Head Coach Josh Cook following the game.
It was a back and forth opening quarter as the teams tried to feel each other out.
The Titans got up by as many as six points in the quarter, 11-5, but the Rebels ended the period on a 13-4 run to lead, 18-15.
Boyle County extended their lead to nine in the second quarter with 3:12 left in the half, 30-21. The Titans refused to go down without a fight however, and ended the quarter on a 7-2 run, including a 30-foot buzzer beating three-pointer from junior Jackson Baughman, making it a two possession game, 32-28.
“I thought he (Baughman) did a really good job tonight. I also thought he did a pretty good job defensively on (Jeremiah) Bell. That is a tough guy to guard and Jackson did a good job, as well as hitting some big shots,” said Cook. Baughman finished the game with 12 points on 4 of 7 shooting.
Mercer County came out strong to start the second half as junior Will Hager, who finished with a game-high 24 points, scored six of the Titans first seven points and helped give them a 36-34 lead with 5:51 remaining in the third.
