Titans Season Ends in Defeat Versus Paul Laurence Dunbar

Mercer County’s Braxton Bradshaw, left, chased down Dunbar running back Jashawn Coleman, right, during the Titans loss Friday, Oct. 31.

The Mercer County football team saw their season come to an end Friday, Oct. 31, after a 34-28 loss to the Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs (4-6).

It looked like the Bulldogs were going to run away with the game as they scored two touchdowns within the first five minutes of the game to take a 12-0 lead.

Mercer County refused to lay down without a fight.

The Titans got on the board on a 60-yard touchdown run by Donald ‘D’ Smith with 6:14 left in the first quarter.

“D ran extremely well tonight,” said Mercer County Head Coach Chris Pardue.

After Dunbar took a 20-6 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by LaDarius Morton, Smith added his second touchdown of the quarter with 3:06 left.

Smith blazed past the Bulldogs defense on his way to a 62-yard touchdown making the score 20-14.

“On both of those runs Aubrey Jones made some really good blocks that allowed D to get free,” added Pardue.
