Titans Soccer Fall in Regular Season Finale

Mercer County freshman Brandon Ballard, right, battled Montgomery County’s Mason Hatton, left, for the ball in the Titans 2-1 loss Thursday, Oct. 9.

In a battle between two top-25 ranked teams, the 13th ranked Mercer County Titans fell to the 21st ranked Montgomery County Indians 2-1, Thursday, Oct. 9.

The Titans came out strong in the first-half, with several great scoring opportunities.

Just 17 minutes into the game, Mercer County senior Clay Morris had a penalty kick after a handball by Montgomery County in the 18-yard box, but the shot was stopped by Indian goalkeeper Hunter Cole.

Mercer continued to attack the Montgomery County defense. A shot by Drew Angel hit the top cross-bar just three minutes later. Another opportunity was denied just moments after Angel’s shot when senior James Stinnett got the ball around Cole, but his shot was saved by a Montgomery County defender just inches in front of the goal.

After continuing the pressure the Titans finally notched the first goal of the game, when a shot by Morris deflected off the post to the feet of senior Matthew Raskin, who put the Titans in front.
