The Mercer County Lady Titans Soccer Team sent their seniors out with a victory Monday night, as they took down the Franklin County Lady Flyers 2-1 on their annual senior night.

After the ceremony to recognize seniors Lauren Beams, Kelsee Darland, Emily Patterson and Samantha Travillian, the Lady Titans were fired up and ready to play.


Only nine minutes into the game, the Lady Titans struck for their first goal when freshman Jasa Connelly intercepted a pass in the Lady Flyer defensive area and sent a blazing shot past Franklin County goalkeeper Kerrigan Brown.

"I anticipated the pass, and once I intercepted it, I took it towards the goal," said Connelly after the game.


The Titans shot 10 other times in the half, but couldn't score, while they also held the Lady Flyers scoreless for the remainder of the half.

It was such an exciting battle between district rivals Mercer County and last year’s 12th Region Champion, the West Jessamine Colts Thursday night that fans were right on the edge of the field watching the final moments of the game.

The first half of the game started out slow, with both teams possessing the ball in the middle of the field with no real chances of scoring.

With five minutes left in the first half, Mercer County had an opportunity from 15-yards out, but a West Jeassamine defender slid in and took the ball from freshman forward Brandon Ballard just as he was about to shoot.
