Beckerson’s 34 Points Lift Bulldogs Over Titans

County bragging rights were on the line Thursday night when Burgin took on Mercer on their home court with both teams looking for their first district win.

Mercer’s offense got off to a slow start, being held to two points through the first quarter. Alex Beckerson helped lead the Bulldogs to a 9-2 lead scoring seven of Burgins’ first nine points. The Titans managed to get things going in the second half of the quarter scoring a total of 16 points. It wasn’t enough to keep pace with the Bulldogs, who took a nine point lead into the second quarter, 25-16.

Steroids Still a Threat to Americas Youth

We've all seen it over the years, a multi-million dollar athlete on their way to the hall of fame only to have his or her legacy tarnished by the use of steroids.

The all time Major League Baseball home run and single season home run record holder, Barry Bonds, has had his records threatened to be marked with an asterisk, and all but guaranteed to be locked out of the Hall of Fame, thanks to his use of performance enhancing drugs. Other all-time greats and former fan favorites like Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz and even last year's National League MVP, Ryan Braun, have all been reduced to unethical athletes looking for an unfair edge over their peers.

Lady Titans Remain Unbeaten In 46th District Competition
The Lady Titans picked up their 16th win of the season Friday night, improving to 4-0 in the 46th District, beating the Lady Jaguars of East Jessamine (3-19), 70-15.

Mercer’s defense was on display in the opening quarter, forcing the Lady Jaguars into 11 turnovers while holding them scoreless for the first five and a half minutes of the game. The Lady Titans opened the game with an 18-0 run before Maddison Stollings scored East Jessamines first basket with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter. Mercer ended the quarter with a commanding 17 point lead, 23-6.

Titans Still Looking for District Win
The Titans remained without a district win after losing to the 46th’s top seeded Jaguars of East Jessamine (19-4) Friday night, 78-63.

Mercer opened the game with a 5-0 run, but were held to just six points for the remainder of the first quarter. Titan Russell Sims carried the load early, scoring nine of Mercer’s 11 first quarter points and finished the first half with 19 points.
