Barn quilts coming to Mercer

By Debbie Jenkins Cook
Herald Staff

Mercer County is getting on the band wagon with many other counties throughout the nation in encouraging farmers to participate in a barn quilt project.

If the term "barn quilt" hasn't made it to your vocabulary yet, it soon will, because an effort is underway here to get enough quilt blocks mounted on barns to establish a barn quilt trail in Mercer County, similar to ones in other Kentucky counties and several other states.

THE HARRODSBURG HERALD/Debbie Jenkins Cook Travis Long, in a Bluegrass Energy truck bucket, and one of his co- workers, Jeff Moberly, on a ladder, hung two barn quilts on a barn on Warwick Road last Wednesday at the home of Jim and Anita Dunn. Above, they worked securing "The Hunt" quilt block to the barn with 20 screws. Later, they placed a narrow white frame around the block and installed a second block on the other side of the barn door.
